Snaza'ist Discovery Centre

We’d like to welcome you to our discovery centre, where you can explore the history of the Similkameen people and the Mascot Gold Mine. Have fun with the interactive exhibits and be drawn back in time in the Similkameen photo gallery. Enter the theatre to watch a short film that tells the story of our people and mining in the Similkameen Valley – “From Ochre to Gold”.

Participate in our Archaeology Program

At the Snaza'ist Discovery Centre you will also be able to participate in our Archaeology Program.  You will be given a guided tour of the exhibits and learn about ancient aboriginal mining and trade.  Outside we will give you a flintknapping demonstration (making projectile points).  You will also be able to screen through cultural sediments and look for artifacts under the watchful eye of our archaeology team who will help you to learn to identify flakes and bone fragments.  You will also learn about pictographs and be able to make one of your own as a keepsake.  This exciting new program takes about 1.5 hours - expect to get a little dirty and have some fun.
