4.5 hours. Make sure you are at the Snaza’ist Centre a ½ hour prior to the tour time to register, tour the exhibits and watch the 10-minute film, From Ochre to Gold.
Good footwear is essential, such as hiking boots or running shoes. We don’t recommend open-toed shoes, as you will be walking up and down LOTS of stairs and on uneven ground.
Dress for the weather. Remember thought that even on the hottest days of the year you might want also want to bring a jacket – the mine tunnel is between 0ºC (32ºF) and 4ºC.
To tour the mine you must be in reasonably good health. Your tour will involve a 1 km hike on a loose gravel road as well as descending and ascending 589 stairs (we’ve counted them!).
Yes. But because of the nature of the mine site, we ask that all children be strictly supervised during the tour. Also, please keep in mind that if they get tired you may need to carry them on the way back to the tour bus, up 589 stairs! There is no way to leave the tour once it is underway.
Snacks are available for purchase at the Snaza’ist Centre, but not at the Mascot Gold Mine. You should be prepared for a 4.5 tour. We suggest bringing water and energy snacks like trail mix and granola bars.
