Welcome to the Snaza’ist Discovery Centre

The Upper Similkameen Indian Band would like to invite you
to explore the incredible history of mining in the Similkameen
Valley – from time immemorial to today.

Visit us at the Snaza’ist Discovery Centre in Hedley, BC
where you can discover the legends and marks left by our
ancestors. For thousands of years, we mined ochre, chert
and other minerals here by hand, which we traded with
First Nations groups up and down the west coast of North
America – as far south as Navaho territory, and as far east
as Blackfoot territory on prairies.

Associates in the preservation and sharing of history.
